    Ego Death

Also known as: ego dissolution, ego loss

A temporary experience during which one's sense of individual self dissolves.

Often described as a loss of the boundary between self and world, ego death (or ego dissolution) tends to occur at higher doses of classical psychedelics. Research suggests it correlates with activity changes in the brain's default mode network. The experience can feel liberating or terrifying depending on preparation and context. It is sometimes considered a pivotal moment in psychedelic-assisted therapy, though it is not a requirement for therapeutic benefit.
