Serotonergic
Relating to or affecting the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine).
Classical psychedelics like LSD, psilocybin, and mescaline are called serotonergic psychedelics because they primarily act on serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. This distinguishes them from dissociatives (which act on NMDA receptors) and deliriants (which act on acetylcholine receptors). The serotonergic system is involved in mood regulation, perception, and cognition, which helps explain the broad range of effects these substances produce.
