What is Energetic flow?
Energetic flow refers to the perception of energy moving through the body during altered states. This is one of the states most frequently described using vocabulary borrowed from Eastern traditions (chakras, kundalini, qi), though the experience itself does not require any particular belief system to occur.
Effects
The sensations are remarkably consistent across individuals and substances: tingling, warmth, pulsation, or wave-like movement, often along the spine or through the core of the body. Some people feel energy rising from the base of the spine upward. Others feel it radiating outward from the heart or solar plexus.
The experience can be subtle, a gentle background hum, or dramatic, with involuntary body movements, heat sensations, or a sense of electricity running through the limbs. The intensity tends to correlate with the depth of emotional or psychological material being processed.
Ayahuasca, MDMA, and breathwork are particularly associated with energetic flow experiences. Psilocybin and cannabis can also produce them, especially at moderate doses where somatic awareness is enhanced rather than overwhelmed.
